New Doctoral Students of the Year 2025/26

Dear Doctoral Students,

We welcome you among the doctoral students of the Interdisciplinary Doctoral School.

Inauguration

We kindly invite you for the ceremony of the Inauguration of the Academic Year 2025/2026 in the Doctoral Schools which will take place on Tuesday the 3th October at 2 p.m. in the Old Library Hall at Krakowskie Przedmieście 26/28.

This is a special moment as you join the community of researchers at the University of Warsaw. The inauguration is an opportunity to solemnly begin a new stage of your academic journey, to meet representatives of the University authorities and the academic community, and to experience the unique atmosphere of our University.

During the event, the inaugural lecture entitled Interdisciplinarity and the Good Life will be delivered by Dr Ivan Dimitrijević (Faculty of “Artes Liberales”).

We will be very pleased to welcome you as doctoral students of the University of Warsaw.

The oath

In accordance with the School’s Rules and Regulations, you acquire your rights as a doctoral student when you take the following oath:

I solemnly swear that I will persistently pursue the acquisition of knowledge and the development of my personality, that I will respect academic laws and customs, and that I will take care of the dignity and honour of a doctoral student at the University of Warsaw with my entire conduct”.

In accordance with the decision of the Director of IDS, prof. Paweł Stępień, the date for taking the oath is October 1st, 2025. Taking the oath must be confirmed in the USOSweb system (screen available after logging in) between October 1st and 31th, 2025. In the event of failure to take the oath, a doctoral student may be removed from the list of doctoral students.

Doctoral Students’ ID CARDS

ID cards can be collected from 22 September 2025 by signing up for an appointment on the calendar in advance.

Those who submitted their documents from 11 to 16 September may collect their ID cards starting from 29 September 2025

Timetable

Medical Examination

In accordance with the Regulation of the Minister of Health (Official Journal of Laws of 2019, item 1651), doctoral students of the doctoral schools shall undergo periodic medical examination.

For that purpose you should:

  1. Collect the referral for medical examination at the Doctoral School Secretary’s Office. Please make an appointment with the School’s Secretary’s Office.
  2. If necessary, make an appointment with your supervisor in order to obtain the list of factors harmful to your health for your referral.
  3. Schedule a visit at Centermed (a health centre) (your referral is valid for one month from the date of issue, which means that you have to come to the clinic with the referral during this time to book an appointment) – (CenterMed Krakowskie Przedmieście – website: www.centermed.pl/KP or CenterMed Waryńskiego – website: www.centermed.pl/Waryńskiego).
  4. Submit a certificate issued by a Centermed doctor to the Doctoral School’s Secretary’s Office (or send a scan to szkola.m@uw.edu.pl).

ORCID

As a doctoral student you need to have an Open Researcher and Contributor ID (ORCID). ORCID allows you to be identified, e.g. in the case of scientific publications. Please generate your number at: [LINK]. Please find the instructions and the declaration form in the following [Download ORCID declaration – docx document]. You must fill out the ORCID declaration form, print it out, sign and submit it by October 31st, 2025 to the Doctoral School’s Secretary’s Office.

Email address registered in the domain uw.edu.pl

We kindly ask you to create an electronic university mail account in the domain uw.edu.pl as soon as possible. Without such an email address it will not be possible for you to receive the official emails. The password should consist of 14 characters without Polish letters e.g. ą, ę, etc. The password should contain an upper and lower case letter, a number and a special character.

Please send your university email address to szkola.m@uw.edu.pl by 15 October 2025. After this date, the secretariat will no longer respond to messages sent from domains other than @uw.edu.pl or @student.uw.edu.pl. Any change of your email address must be communicated to the School’s Secretary’s Office.

We would like to remind you that in accordance with Ordinance No. 279 of the Rector of the University of Warsaw on the University of Warsaw e-mail accounts: Each University employee, doctoral student and student shall be required to have and regularly use their university e-mail account, including receiving any emails. In matters related to the activities of the University, where the use of e-mail is necessary, the users shall be required to only use their university e-mail account.The correspondence of a University employee, student and/or doctoral student sent from an e-mail account other than their university e-mail account shall be left without consideration.

Those who already had an account in the @student.uw.edu.pl domain and have created a new address in the @uw.edu.pl domain are obliged to immediately notify the IDS secretary’s office at at the e-mail address: szkola.m@uw.edu.pl in order to replace the old address in the USOS system. Otherwise, they are going to keep receiving emails to the address in the @student.uw.edu.pl domain.

Scholarship

The doctoral scholarship amounts to PLN 4,242 (PLN 3,764.35 net). It is paid around the 17th day of each month. The first payment in the new academic year is scheduled for 17–19 October.

USOS

Your data has already been entered into the USOS system.

If you have not previously studied at UW and would like to log in, you should use your PESEL number and the password from the IRK system. If you are continuing your education at UW, you should log in using your previous login details.

If you do not have a PESEL number, please contact the Secretariat to received your new password and login number.
