Health insurance for foreigners

Health insurance for non-EU citizens

Important - Health insurance for non-EU citizens

We would like to remind you how crucial it is for you to have health insurance. Health insurance is mandatory for all students for the whole duration of their stay in Poland. It is also required to obtain a temporary residence permit. Students who are not from the European Union do not have access to free healthcare and are not automatically insured by the University. You have to get insurance on your own.

There are many companies that can offer you one, but we strongly recommend signing the insurance agreement with the National Health Fund (Narodowy Fundusz Zdrowia – NFZ). With this you will be treated just like you had access to public healthcare. It is also relatively cheap – it only costs 55,80 PLN/month.

You can find all the necessary information regarding how to get the NFZ insurance here: LINK

For any questions regarding health insurance please refer to the Welcome Point: LINK

A doctoral student suspending their studies in accordance with §43, sec. 3. of the MSD regulations at the University of Warsaw, who wants to continue being insured for health, must fill in the ZUS ZZA form to be registered for health insurance during the period of suspension. During the suspension, the same rules apply to health insurance, i.e. one should inform the university about changes in insurance coverage, i.e. de-registering for the duration of work, etc.

Self-insurance

A doctoral student who is not a citizen of a member state of the European Union or a member state of the European Free Trade Agreement (EFTA) and who does not have a documented Polish origin within the meaning of the repatriation regulations, may take out voluntary insurance with the NFZ.
